How to Circumvent Potential SSD Failures

Video-How to Circumvent Potential SSD Failures

Solid state drives (SSDs) have largely replaced hard drives in many laptops, but those drives can eventually wear out. This useful video points out the best way to deal with this potential issue.

In recent years, most laptop computers have replaced spinning hard drives, which are replaceable assemblies, to solid states drives, which are soldered onto the computer’s pc board. There have been numerous videos, most of them dealing with Apple computers, that warn these drives wear out and document a number of drive failures.

While users of any computer with a solid-state drive should be aware of the issue, many online articles and videos say that undue worry is unwarranted and that solid state drives often give users years of useful life. The solid-state drive might still be working fine when the user decides to replace the computer due to obsolescence or other issues.

But one way for users to ensure that their valuable data is safe in the long haul is to use an external drive.

One useful video on this subject was posted by You Tube tech product reviewer Kyle Erickson.

In the video, Erickson advises users how to select an external drive for a Mac computer as well as how to move data and apps over to those drives. He also gives tips on how to manage data storage.
