Autodesk Releases Green Building Studio

Autodesk Inc., a company that produces AutoCAD and building information modeling (BIM) software for the building industry, released green building software it acquired in the purchase of Green Building Studio and Carmel Software Corp. Both of the acquired companies produce software for construction sustainability. "Autodesk is committed to providing technology that makes sustainable design easier and more efficient," says Jay Bhatt, senior vice president of Autodesk ACE Solutions.

Green Building Studio was launched on the Internet in 2004. The Web service offers building energy and carbon analysis tools for architects and designers using CAD and BIM software from Autodesk. The tool lets builders analyze building design proposals for sustainability. Carmel Software provides HVAC mechanical engineering software that delivers thermal load calculation to give engineers the data needed to determine the necessary size of HVAC systems. Carmel's programs were also developed for compatibility with BIM software.
