Vote for Reader's Choice of Most Innovative Embedded Product

ARM TechCon has announced the 12 finalists for its Innovation Challenge awards, and it is now your turn to choose the Reader's Choice winner. This Challenge is a free contest open to all exhibitors at ARM TechCon 2016 (Oct. 25-27 in Santa Clara, Calif).

ARMTechConn Innovation awardsThe ARM TechCon conference facilitates the collaboration between hardware and software communities with the goal of creating a more integrated and collaborative design environment. The event, managed by Design News' parent company, UBM, brings together hardware engineers, software developers, and system architects working across a broad range of applications, from wearables to drones to servers.

The Innovation Challenge seeks to highlight the most innovative ARM embedded system products developed between Oct. 1, 2015 and Oct. 1, 2016. A panel of Design News and ARM experts selected 12 finalists in four categories: Best Chip Product, Best IoT Product, Best Software Product, and Best System. Awards will also be given for Best in Show and Reader's Choice, and what's where you come in.

It's your turn to weigh in for the Reader's Choice vote. You have until Oct. 26 at noon Pacific Time to cast your vote for one of the following finalists. Use the survey link at the bottom of this article to select one of these 12 finalists as the Reader's Choice for the most innovative product of the last year.

BEST CHIP PRODUCT FINALISTS
STM32L433 Microcontroller, STMicroelectronics
The STM32L433 is built on a new architecture that reaches best-in-class ultra-low-power figures as a result of its high flexibility. STM32L4-series MCUs have scored 177 in the standardized EEMBC(TM) ULPBench(R) tests that compare the efficiency of ultra-low-power microcontrollers. Moreover, the STM32L4 series shatters performance limits in the ultra-low-power world. It delivers 100 DMIPS based on its ARM(R) Cortex(R)-M4 core with FPU and ST ART Accelerator(TM) at 80 MHz.

Palladium Z1 Enterprise Emulation Platform, Cadence Design Systems
The Palladium Z1 Enterprise Emulation Platform ushered in a new era of datacenter-class emulation, timely for the perpetually growing needs to provide more verification cycles and throughput as needed to verify ARM based designs, The new emulation platform delivers up to 5x greater emulation throughput, with an average 2.5x greater workload efficiency than its closest competitor. Palladium Z1 offers datacenter-class emulation scalability from IP blocks to full Systems-on-Chip with capacity of up to 9.2 billion gates and delivers best in class total cost of ownership with 92 percent smaller footprint, 8X higher gate density and up to 44 percent better power density than previous generations. With the ability to execute 2304 parallel jobs with 4 million gate granularity, and unparalleled reliability, Palladium Z1 platform was at its launch already being utilized across global design teams to verify increasingly complex designs.

Speedcore, Achronix Semiconductor
Speedcore is designed for compute and network acceleration applications and is based on the same high-performance architecture that is in Achronix's Speedster22i FPGAs that have been shipping in production since 2013. With Speedcore, customers define the quantity of look-up-tables (LUTs), embedded memory blocks and DSP blocks. Additionally, customers define the Speedcore aspect ratio, IO port connections and can make tradeoffs between power and performance. Achronix delivers a GDS II of the Speedcore IP that customers integrate directly into their SoC, and a custom, full-featured version of the Achronix ACE design tools that customers use to design, verify and program the functionality of the Speedcore eFPGA.

BEST IoT PRODUCT FINALISTS
Hexiwear, NXP
Hexiwear, designed to reduce time-to-market in the era of connected devices, provides an optimized hardware design and includes several best practices suggested for IoT experts. Hexiwear is compatible with 200+ plug and play boards to inspire a multitude of application ideas and enable application development in minutes. The robust software package includes everything from embedded drivers to cloud connectivity, all open source and easy to use. Hexiwear is a true community-based solution which provides customers with a rich pool of resources available through the community.

NI InsightCM, National Instruments
NI InsightCM is a solution designed to address challenges associated with the data collection and understanding of health and performance data for industrial assets such as turbines, pumps, or fans. NI InsightCM consists of distributed ARM-based CompactRIO controllers communicating with a central server. The CompactRIO acquires high-speed waveform data, typically of vibration-related measurements, and performs in-motion analysis using the processor. These features are further processed on the CompactRIO to identify alarm conditions or to understand if the data provides asset health data of value to the user. If so, this data is sent to a central server responsible for storing the data, notifying users of alarm conditions, managing the distributed network of potentially thousands of devices, and serving the data to the user via data viewers that allow subject matter experts to obtain knowledge.

Accenture IoT Device Platform (AIDP), Accenture
The Accenture IoT Connected Device Platform was designed and built to satisfy a number of emerging client/market demands. These demands were primarily to build a platform (hardware and software) with pre-integration of known, prioritised, ecosystem solutions, cloud platforms, sensors and communication technologies to enable accelerated client PoC creation; to enable rapid prototyping of IoT use cases; to shorten time to innovation for clients and to demonstrate Accenture's proven capability for design, integration, test and certification. Due to the 'fully loaded' nature of the platform, prototyping client PoCs and IoT use cases is very fast and therefore reduces time to innovation and time to market ultimately reducing overall program costs.

BEST SOFTWARE PRODUCT FINALISTS
Kinibi-M, Trustonic
Kinibi-M is Trustonic's new secure operating system leveraging ARM TrustZone-M on ARM's Cortex-M processors and enables chip makers, devices makers and solution developers to offer new security infrastructures and services. Targeted at IoT devices and using the standard blockchain technology, each stakeholder of the device can easily create a chain of trust to leverage unique scalability across a wide range of devices. The use of blockchain enables each stakeholder to easily personalize a device, without the need to build a highly complex and expensive infrastructure.

DevicePilot, DevicePilot
DevicePilot is a cloud based software that allows you to easily locate, monitor and manage your connected devices automatically at scale, with proactive management throughout your entire device lifecycle. It integrates with mbed Device Server/Connector to provide management KPIs, visibility and orchestration across your entire device estate.

DRT Cortex-M IDE, SOMNIUM
SOMNIUM DRT is fully source compatible with industry standard GNU (including the latest C11 and C++14 dialects and C++ exception handling), while offering improved code generation and enhanced debug features. Other products "freeload" on Open Source GNU tools. DRT leverages GNU compatible and adds innovative, patented features to address real world problems faced by developers. DRT provides innovation features to automatically import projects, so developers can easily benefit from DRT's productivity enhancing IDE, advanced code generation and state of the art debug. DRT's advanced real time debug features provide unique features available even of low-end Cortex M0+ devices (such as live viewing of memory and expressions with no source code changes, no extra code required and no timing impact). These features address real problems when debugging software on resource limited, hard real-time embedded systems.
