In the days of the dinosaur, those of us that had been “touched” with the power of the embedded electron plied our craft with ultraviolet lamps, EPROMS, seedy cross compilers, and multiple spins of prototype printed circuit boards. We no longer serve the silicon behind the quartz window as a new king named IoT reigns over the land. This series of lectures will present an IoT design and development paradigm based on modular firmware and hardware that supports Microchip’s family of PIC32 microcontrollers and the MikroElektronika click boards.

January 31 – Day 3 – Curiosity PIC32 MZEF

Bare metal IoT design is the theme of the day. In today’s lecture we will sing out of tune and, without the aid of MPLAB Harmony, craft a PIC32MZ EF microSD click board driver. While we’re at it, we will also teach the PIC32MZ EF to sense temperature and humidity using a DHT22-2 click board.

January 30 – Day 2 – Explorer 16/32 Development Board

Today’s lecture will expand upon the capabilities of the PIC32MM0064GPL036. We will mount a PIC32MM0064GPL036 PIM on our Explorer 16/32 Development Board and use the MPLAB software tools to create firmware capable of driving even more MikroElektronika click boards including a GPS click module.
