Sensors provide the starting point for control systems. Any smart phone user can easily identify the smarts associated with the sensing in their phone. However, cars, homes, factories, cities and essentially anything with a smart prefix and control requirements takes advantage of smart sensors. With today’s increasing system complexities, more and more smart sensors are being offered to reduce system complexity, simplify connectivity and the systems designer’s task and provide more value to the end user. In May, Design News will look at the growing trend toward smart or intelligent sensors in a webinar that examines the effect of on-board sensor intelligence in applications ranging from phones and pacemakers to robots and autonomous cars.
