Processing technique improves spring performance

Rolex Co.'s National Disc Spring Division says its new manufacturing procedure offers better control of the heat-treating process, critical to clutch spring function.

Clutch springs are typically required to provide constant loading over a large travel. In order to achieve that, conventional manufacturing methods require secondary processes and sorting. Rolex claims its proprietary method eliminates those secondary processes--specifically the need to decarbonize parts after heat treating, offering the additional benefit of cost savings.
