The week of November 20th is National Game and Puzzle Week, when games and puzzles receive their due for being recreational diversions that are not only fun but also give ample opportunities for participants to exercise their brain muscles. As engineers are often considered some of the brighter minds around, it is not surprisingly that puzzle games, which nowadays are in electronics formats, are recreational pursuits that challenge their minds.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the gaming content site Ordinary Gaming came up with list of what they considered the best puzzle games of all time. While this list has familiar names such as Tetris and Candy Crush Saga, there are other interesting entries.

A puzzle game is a genre of video games that has players solving puzzles using logic and pattern recognition, among many other problem-solving skills. They have continuously evolved to feature various creative concepts, often of which help encourage a player to try and use their imagination, as well as curiosity, to pass each level.

The advent of smartphones have given some new life to puzzle games, as the phones with more memory and better graphics become more viable platforms for these games.
