Consumer Reports has issued its annual roundup of its ten "Top Picks" as the best new vehicles to purchase in 2022.

While automotive enthusiast publications will typically choose cars that they enjoy driving (logically), vehicles on CR's list must be affordable and deliver the latest safety features such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. These cars must have the right combination of road-test performance, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety.

“Buying a car can be overwhelming and challenging, especially this year,” said Jake Fisher, senior director of automotive testing at Consumer Reports. “Simplifying shopping, drivers can use our Top Picks list to help them identify a vehicle that meets their needs. Through these picks, we’re also pushing the market to make life-saving safety features standard and reduce vehicle emissions to help the environment.”
