For this week’s fun, we decided to check out MOXIE, the JPL’s Mars oxygen experiment. First, they create Martian atmosphere; then they turn it into breathable gas for humans. Why? Because you can’t cart enough oxygen to Mars on a spaceship. This is the key to sending humans to Mars. Just amazing.

Rob Spiegel has covered manufacturing for 22 years, 19 of them for Design News. Other topics he has covered include automation, supply chain technology, alternative energy, and cybersecurity. For 10 years, he was the owner and publisher of the food magazine Chile Pepper.
