Tablet PC Functions as Workstation

StarNet Communications Corp., developer of Windows-to-UNIX/Linux connectivity software has demonstrated the ability of its X-Win32 X server to turn HP Tablet PCs into wireless UNIX workstations. Paul Swart, StarNet VP of Sales, says, "The Tablet PC offers new ways to increase job efficiency by taking computing environments to where notebook PCs are too cumbersome and PDAs too limited." For motion control engineers, an example of a Tablet PC accessing a UNIX server might include microchip production engineers taking the tablet into the fabrication cleanroom to make on-the-fly adjustments to IC production equipment and seeing the results instantly on the tablet.
