For decades, advanced manufacturing equipment was used primarily by the largest manufacturers. As prices came down on sensors, robotics, and other essentials in smart manufacturing, advanced automation tools became available to a wider range of companies—spanning those involved in manufacturing, packaging, medical production, and even agriculture. Now, return on investment—or ROI—is getting measured in months rather than years.

Design News will present the free webinar, ROI-Based Smart Manufacturing, at 2:00 pm EST on July 26. Design News Senior Editor Rob Spiegel will discuss how companies are funding the transition to smart manufacturing through the savings they gain in greater plant efficiencies, increased uptime, and overall plant optimization. Looking at ROI in Advanced Manufacturing
This webinar will look at different aspects of smart manufacturing from an ROI standpoint. This includes a look at Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platforms, predictive maintenance systems, and robotics on the line. It also will examine potential ROI from the automated mobile robots that deliver and take away materials from the production line. In addition, the webinar will explore the big data analytics designed to optimize the manufacturing process.
The program will delve into how manufacturers are deploying smart manufacturing in stages. In some cases, the ROI from one stage of smart manufacturing can be used to finance the next stage of automation. Spiegel will take attendees through the types of smart manufacturing that are becoming affordable to small- and mid-size companies.
Rob Spiegel has covered automation and control for 17 years, 15 of them for Design News. Other topics he has covered include supply chain technology, alternative energy, and cyber security. For 10 years, he was owner and publisher of the food magazine Chile Pepper.
