Ready, set, show!

Chicago, IL-National Manufacturing Week-consisting of the National Design Engineering Show, the National Industrial Automation Show, the National Industrial Enterprise IT, and the National Plant Show-runs March 5-9, 2001. And it's the place to be to see the latest innovations in everything from product design to plant maintenance, from automation to information technology, all in one place.

The National Design Engineering Show is the largest of the events, showcasing the latest innovations in computer hardware, electronics, engineering software, fastening, fluid power, materials, motion control, power transmission, and more.

On the following pages, you'll find reports on many of the technologies on display at the show, including:

A patented tube fitting that uses radial force for gripping and sealing

A caged roller guide with elastomeric bearing cage that eliminates roller-to-roller contact

A digital thermo-anemometer that simultaneously takes air velocity and temperature readings with its telescoping stainless steel tip

A low-volume, compact rotary diaphragm pump capable of flow rates up to 1 gpm and pressure up to 35 psi

An inverter-grade flexible motor supply cable for variable frequency drives

A totally integrated brushless dc motor, amplifier, and full function motion control module

Ceramic balls that provide bearing performance in a wide range of applications

An electronic locking system with 4.3 billion key combinations

The Design News booth #6936 is one of the hottest attractions at the show. It features many interactive displays based on technologies that have been covered by the magazine in the past year. Don't miss the fluidic muscle ride and the animatronic robot, plus demonstrations of the Design News website (www.designnews.com), Best Product of the Year, and Engineer of the Year displays. Design News editors will also lead a team of engineering journalists producing the National Manufacturing Week Show Daily. The daily newspaper will report on major events, conferences, and new technologies introduced at the show and will be available at the main entrances of the show halls.

And just in case you can't make it to Chicago the first week of March, check out our website at www.designnews.com which will feature a Virtual Trade Show. It will include information on the exhibiting companies, new products introduced, and conference details, and will be updated every day live from the show floor.
