New Information Sources For Fastening And Joining

Engineers specifying fastening and joining technology now have two more sources of information to help them make design decisions.

First is a book entitled Guide To World Screw Threads, by Peter Sidders and published by Industrial Press, Inc. The book has detailed information on such topics as hydraulic pipe sizes, gas-cylinder threads, and copper tube threads, just to name a few of the categories you can get specs on. The book is available at http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0831110929/ref=sib_rdr_fc/102-9192646-7092124?%5Fencoding=UTF8&p=S001#reader-page.

For engineers in need of information on adhesives, the Adhesive And Sealant Council, Inc. (www.ascouncil.org) is presenting a short course on pressure-sensitive adhesives November 10-11 in Cincinnati. The course will provide information on testing, formulation issues, raw material considerations, and surface chemistry, among other subjects.

Lecturers will speak on surface energetics and contact angles, how to make an emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesive, basic polymer viscoelasticity, and coating of an emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesive. There will also be a roundtable discussion on problem solving.

Details and registration for the course at http://www.ascouncil.org/meetings/PSA_ShortCourse_Nov04.cfm.
