Motor monitors itself and related process

Cleveland, OH--Continuous processes where downtime interrupts critical services demand continuous monitoring. So do environmental processes where downtime results in permit violations or health hazards.

IQ PreAlert Intelligent motors, new from Reliance Electric, continually monitor, log, and communicate motor and motor-dependent process conditions. Operation depends upon an on-board processor working in conjunction with standard precision sensors.

Easily set to user-selected parameters, the sensors detect winding and bearing temperatures, vibration, and varying load/power conditions. Current signature analysis provides diagnostic information relative to winding, rotor, and bearing integrity by monitoring all three phases of incoming power.

"Because the IQ PreAlert processor sensors are integrated into the motor," explains Product Manager Rich Schaefer, "data being monitored and analyzed is online for real-time processing."

RSView, a Windows(R)-based PC interface from Rockwell Software, provides extensive archiving and manipulation of collected data. Currently available from 2- through 5-hp, 230 or 460V, Reliance(R) IQ PreAlert AC motors will be offered to 300 hp by year-end 1997.
