Miniature LVDT Position Sensors

Macro Sensors' CD 375 Series ofminiature LVDTs make the linear position sensors useful for providingdisplacement feedback in different robotic applications.

Robots and robotic arms rely onsensors to determine range of motion or force applied to an object. Attached to a robotic arm, the Macro Sensorsminiature LVDT linear position sensors detect position change when an actuatormoves the robotic arm, providing an analog voltage signal, proportional to theamount of motion, to a controller that makes appropriate adjustments based onprogrammable set points. With the dataprovided by the sensor, the controller can determine when the robotic armshould stop or slow down. For example,on a pick and place machine, if the robotic arm exceeded its travel distance, itcould drive right through the board it intended to populate. Macro Sensors miniature linear positionsensors evaluate the robotic arm movement for optimum performance.

In addition to industrial robots, Macro Sensors CD 375 miniature LVDTsare suitable as an integral part of devices such as hydraulic actuators, servovalves, medical equipment and other small mechanisms. A compact 3/8 inch diameter design andlightweight low mass core make the small contactless position sensors usefulfor applications having high dynamic response requirements such as ATMs, copymachines, plastic injection molding machines and automatic inspectionequipment.

Available in full-scale measurement ranges from A plus or minus 0.025(A plus or minus 0.63)to A plus or minus 2.0inch (A plus or minus 50.0mm), these ac operated linear position sensors offer a 50 percent larger core-to-boreradial clearance (0.012 inch) than similar sized competitive units. Units featureexcellent repeatability (error of <0.01 percent of FSO), high resolution andthe highest sensitivity consistent with good linearity (maximum linearity errorof A plus or minus 0.25percent FRO). Environmentally robust, the CD 375 Series operate in temperatureextremes of -65 to +220F (-55 to +105C). Stainless steel housings and epoxyencapsulation protects units from environmentally hostile conditions. Externalsealing of the miniature position sensors meets IEC standard IP-61. Interchangeablewith most manufacturer units, the CD 375 Series LVDTs operate with anyconventional differential input LVDT signal conditioners. Macro Sensorsmanufactures a full line of LVDT signal conditioners that offer performancefrom any CD 375 Series LVDTs.
