MATERIALS:  Premix Inc. recently introduced Premi-Glas®2550 CR-SX, an advanced thermoset molding compound with superior smoke and flame retardant properties.Custom-formulated specifically for applications requiring Class I rated material, Premi-Glas®2550 CR-SX is ideal for use in HVAC and construction products, such as housings, drain pans and side walls for hot air furnaces, air handlers and air conditioning units; and for building products such as residential and commercial doors.

Premi-Glas®2550 CR-SX stands up to the industry’s most stringent test requirements for flame and smoke retardance and exceeds Class I acceptance criteria listed in the UL 723 standard from Underwriters Labs. Also known as ASTM E84 and UBC 8-1, this standard is the test method of choice for many industries, including construction, where flame spread and smoke generation characteristics of materials must be classified prior to specification. The compound also exhibits superior resistance to corrosion, noise and vibration, and provides excellent structural rigidity, which, along with the other attributes, is needed for internal components in aircraft, buses and trains.

A variation of this high-performance compound is also available which offers outstanding antimicrobial properties. In conjunction with its rated flame and smoke performance, the available antimicrobial version offers developers of large HVAC systems the inherent design flexibility of thermoset composites while in parallel enabling the improvement of indoor air quality.
