PEF Cell Extraction Laboratory Unit Breaks Cell Walls in Food and Plant Tissues

MATERIALS: A PEF (pulsed electric field) laboratory unit that facilitates cell extraction for juicing prefermentation, predigestion, and other processes is available from Diversified Technologies Inc.

Diversified Technologies’ PEF Cell Extraction Unit passes food and plant materials through a treatment chamber and subjects them to brief pulses of very high voltage which break cell walls without denaturing proteins.  Accelerating extraction processes to provide higher throughput, this non-thermal and non-chemical unit reduces total energy consumption, claims the firm.

Essentially making more of the cell contents accessible for extraction, Diversified Technologies’ PEF Cell Extraction Unit features a 300 l/hr. capacity, with 25 kV, 25 kW power levels to permit a wide range of process development studies. This FDA-approved unit is scalable to production environments with up to 10,000 l/hr throughput.

Diversified Technologies’ PEF Cell Extraction Unit is priced from $250,000. Literature is available upon request.
