Sonoweld(TM)Digital Metal Spot Welders are a new series of multi-functional, multiprocessor-controlled spot welders, with wire-to-terminal welding also possible through the use of additional tooling. The product can reportedly join up to ten stranded wires from a flat flexible circuit to multi-connection terminals in a single pulse. "The Sonoweld helps solve one of the cumbersome manufacturing steps in the burgeoning digital electronics industry," says contest judge Lawrence Cartwright of Carnegie Mellon.
