Cable carriers help extend boom-lift height

Selma, CA-After boom-lift manufacturer Upright Inc. tested different cable carriers for cost effectiveness, Nylatrac(R) carrier from A & A Manufacturing Co. Inc. (New Berlin, WI) got the nod. "The alternative plastic track from the other supplier held up just as well," explains Gary Crook, senior design engineer at Upright. "But it just wasn't as cost effective."

Upright makes four different boom models for a range of applications including utility, heavy construction, and shipbuilding. There are two articulating sizes, and two straight boom sizes. "We use the standard glass reinforced plastic Nylatrac carriers on three models because they are both durable and light weight," Crook explains. "Removable cross bars make it easy to install the lines, and the light weight reduces the overturning moment which lets us save on the counterweight in the base of the machine."
