21st Annual Design News Awards Honor Engineering's Best

Engineering's most prestigious awards program will be among the highlights of the National Design Engineering Show once again this year.

Design News will introduce the winners of the magazine's Engineering Achievement Awards, and the winner of The Best Product of the Year Award at a special luncheon Tuesday, February 24, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Chicago.

Separately, the magazine will also honor winners of its Excellence in Design Award.

This is the 21st consecutive year that Design News will be honoring engineering's best and brightest. The awards, considered to be the "Oscars" of engineering, have resulted in over $1 million being donated to the nation's engineering colleges and universities.

This year's winners hail from such companies as Lockheed Martin, Ford Motor Company, Harley-Davidson, Kodak, and the Western Pennsylvania Hospital, center of innovative orthopaedic technology. Additionally, a student team from one of the nation's foremost engineering schools will receive a special award.

Design News works with important vendors who fund the actual awards. Those vendors are:

  • The Timken Corp., which funds the Engineer of the Year Award

  • Phillips Plastics, which funds the Special Achievement Award

  • ITT Industries, Cannon, which funds the Engineering Quality Award

  • Autodesk, which funds the Women-In-Engineering Award

  • Omron Electronics, which funds the Global Innovation Award.

  • ANSYS, which funds the College Design Engineering Award

Winners are featured in Design News' special Show Issue, February 23, 2004.

Show attendees can meet the winners at a special Welcoming Session at the Design News booth, Wednesday, February 25, at 11am.
