Continental Hydraulics

In 1927, founder Leighton Wilkie incorporated Continental Machine Specialties Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Specializing in tool and die work and metal stamping, Wilkie developed the Continental Process in 1929, a process for stamping parts out of metal faster and at less cost than any other method at the time. In 1933, Wilkie invented the metal cutting band saw, ushering in a new era in machine tool making. Dubbed the "DoALL" for its wide variety of applications, Wilkie introduced the contour band saw in 1935.

Design Guide

This resource addresses general specifications and shaft information for HPV Axial Piston Pumps.

Design Guide

PVX Pumps are designed to provide reliable performance, and to be easily repaired should the need arise. The procedures in this repair manual will show you how to repair virtually any part of your pump.

Design Guide

With the start-up of any servo system, it is highly recommended that the hydraulic fluid and associated system be cleaned.

Design Guide

With the start-up of any servo system, it is recommended that the hydraulic fluid and associated system by cleaned. This can be accomplished by circulating the fluid through all of its operating filters for at least two hours without the servo valve in place. In doing this, the chances of the problems occurring with the servo valve at start-up are minimized.

Design Guide

Continental manufactures all P1 versions of the PVX pump with a through drive shaft that makes it easy to install another pump in tandem. When used as a single pump, the rear cover plate is bolted over the cavity in the body of the pump to seal the pump. To identify the P1 pumps, look for the easily recognizable rear cover plate.

Design Guide

This service manual applies to products with ordering codes similar to the sample shown in the service manual.

Design Guide

This resource addresses such troubleshooting guides as excessive pump noise, leakage at the shaft seals, bearing failure and lack of volume.

Design Guide

The continental valve may be mounted in any position. If the valve is to be used as a two position double solenoid valve and the spool held in one position without the solenoid energized, it is necessary to mount the valve with the spool horizontal or to use a valve equipped with detents to hold the spool in the desired position.
