Dave Palmer is a licensed professional metallurgical engineer, specializing in failure analysis and materials selection. He lives in Waukegan, Illinois, and works as a metallurgist for BRP, the manufacturer of Evinrude and Johnson outboard engines.

He earned a BS in Materials Science and Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2005, and a MS in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2014.

He is active with SAE International as an associate editor of the Journal of Materials and Manufacturing and a session organizer for the annual Small Engine Technology Conference.
