There are currently about 300,000 job openings for engineers in the US and Canada. Here are the disciplines offering the most positions.

Which Engineering Disciplines Have the Most Job Openings?

Here’s a look into the engineering job market at this moment. There are more than 300,000 current jobs listed on EngineeringJobs.com. These are dispersed across 32 different engineering disciplines. Not all disciplines are in demand. More than half of all the jobs are for software engineers, while solar engineers are looking at a whopping 37 jobs across the US and Canada.

We’ve taken a look at 15 of those disciplines relevant to Design News readers. We’ve skipped those disciplines with a ridiculously low number of openings (such as solar engineering) and those with little relevance to our readers (architectural engineering and civil engineering). Some of the categories fall into job function (project engineering) as opposed to a specific discipline, such as mechanical engineering.
