NI's Dr. T to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

For the first time in its history, Design News will honor the commitment and groundbreaking contributions made by an individual whose careers have had a demonstrable impact on the world of design engineering.

The inaugural Lifetime Achievement award will be presented to Dr. James Truchard (Dr. T), co-founder and current president of National Instruments, during the Golden Mousetrap Awards ceremony on Feb. 11, 2014 in Anaheim, Calif.

"I am very proud to announce Dr. Truchard as this year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipient," said Design News Brand Director Rich Nass. "His work has greatly influenced the advanced manufacturing design community. The Lifetime Achievement Award was created to acknowledge the great commitment and ground-breaking contributions individuals like Dr. Truchard have accomplished."

As one of Forbes's America's Favorite Bosses, Dr. T has led the company from a three-man team to a multinational organization recognized as a Fortune 100 Best Places to Work and one of the top 25 "World's Best Multinational Workplaces" by the Great Places to Work Institute.

Under Truchard's leadership, the company's long-term vision, known as the 100-year plan, and focus on improving the world by providing tools that accelerate productivity, innovation, and discovery, has led to strong, consistent company growth and success of its broad base of customers, employees, suppliers, and shareholders.

Truchard holds a doctorate in electrical engineering, as well as a Master's degree and Bachelor's degree in physics, all from the University of Texas at Austin. Truchard earned his Master's and doctorate degrees while working full-time as the managing director of the acoustical measurements division at the UT Applied Research Laboratories.

"I am honored to accept this award from such a longstanding publishing organization that consistently strives to share the latest trends and cutting-edge applications with the science and engineering community," said Truchard.

Truchard will be presented the award at the 2014 Golden Mousetrap Awards ceremony during the co-located events Pacific Design & Manufacturing, MD&M West, WestPack, PLASTEC West, Electronics West, ATX West, and AeroCon.
