LOW COST 3 D PRINTERS

Cabe--I am amazed at the low cost of this printer AND with software included. (If I read this properly.) It does appear the products created are somewhat small in size but of course most products are "scalable" and can demonstrate form, fit and function adequately.  One thing that really makes me feel very good--the junior high school my oldest grandson attends has a 3 D printer.  You would not believe the objects they are learning to produce.  The printer was a donation from a parent and is used in the physics class these guys have to take.  Great use of a student's time.

Excellent post.

Really Cost Effective?

While the cost of 3D printers going down is an exciting development, I am wondering how practical they are considering the costs of the filament cartridges and how much real use you would have with one. I know when we first starting getting really cheap inkjet printers, the cost of the ink cartridges often offset any cost savings realized by a cheaper printer. I don't know enough - but I am wondering if buying one of these 3D printers will put you in the same predicament?

The fabric described here seems more like felt than cloth, but it is impressive that it can be made at all.  Certainly a starting point for future developments.

I agree, Greg. The fabric printer surprised me, too. There must be a way for the apparel industry to benefit from this technology.

The 3D fabric printer really caught my eye in this article.  This is clearly an innovative new approach to 3D printing.  Future applicatoins could include custom logos or better form-fitting apparel as the technology advances and smaller fibers are able to be manipulated.
