The TI eZ430 Chronos Watch

The  teardown of the LG G Watch is pretty impressive. The electronics horsepower that's packaged in a small size is quite amazing. Smart watches are becoming gateways to the Wearable electronics market based on sensing technologies, like accelerometers and GPS devices that assist in maintaining fitness and providing mobility direction. TI has a smartwatch for developers to explore the world of wearable electronics called the ez430 Chronos Watch. The TI ez430 wiki explains the operation of the watch shown below.

The watch is based on the CC430F6137 <1 GHz RF SoC. The eZ430-Chronos is a complete CC430-based development system, featuring a 96 segment LCD display and provides an integrated pressure sensor and 3-axis accelerometer for motion sensitive control.

The integrated wireless feature allows the Chronos to act as a central hub for nearby wireless sensors such as pedometers and heartrate monitors. The eZ430-Chronos offers temperature and battery voltage measurement and is complete with a USB-based CC1111 (kits with black PCBs) or CC1101/MSP430F5509(kits with white PCBs) wireless interface to a PC.

 

I've been investigated the watch personally and its quite amazing some of the control and monitoring features it has for example, pulse rate measuring and powerpoint slide controller. I plan on using the watch to explore some IoT-Mechatronics concepts with an Arduino. For additonal information, the wiki link is shown below.

To have this item strapped to your wrist all the time, it better do something people can't live without. 

I used to think people who looked at their watch when around you were annoying... this will take it to a whole new level.

It's not really a watch, though, is it? It's a computer your can wear on your wrist. The fact that it can also display the time is a minor feature, really - my phone has a time display but it's not marketed as a clock. 

Let's see who comes up with a more appropriate name for it.

Yes this designer seems better other than the strap i consider . Features are a bit a head in comparison to GEAR LIVE.

It does seem a lot cleaner but is it comfortable? Imagine wearing it all day on your wrist, the strap doesn't seem that comfy compared to Gear Live's. The G watch does have technically superior perks regarding the battery and it's charging, but when it comes to comfort i think i will prefer the Gear Live even with slightly lesser features.
Replace the strap of G watch with the Gear Live's and we got a pretty good watch.

Miroslav, I really like the comparison of two different brands of the same type of device.  Each of the teardowns are interesting in themselves.  It is more interesting to see how different design teams have handled the same set of problems. 

The Samsung watch was good, but this design seems a lot cleaner.
