I think the key to wearables, Lou, will be that they appear more stylish and not, as you mention, like merely a piece of technology. I seem to remember a fashion-inspired piece of wearable tech--maybe it was a dress--that someone reported on that looked pretty cool. I think the style is what sets The Beacon apart from some other technologies that might do the same. It was a good idea for them to find a jewelry designer to help them come up with a stylish product.

Thanks, bobjengr! I don't think this will help if your wife is actually trying to avoid you. ;) But it seems like it could be more helpful if she doesn't always have her phone with her and you want to get in touch. I appreciate your interest and will post a comment when I know more about if this hits the streets.

Yes, Daniyal, I think while sometimes we actually want to be left alone, allowing for personalized settings gives people using this product the option to stay peacefully without mobile-device interruption if they so choose. And it actually looks pretty cool as well.

Yes, Cadman-LT, I think there are different types of alerts you can program, such as lighting up and vibrating depending on where you are and what kind of alerts you need to get. It seems like the designers have covered alot of bases here in terms of various scenarios of use.

What do you have, Cabe? Was it something you bought or invented?

Elizabeth--I think this is a great idea and I will one of the first to buy one----for my wife!!!!!!!!!!!  The only problem might be she won't turn it on or keep it charged, just like her cell phone.  Maybe she needs a pair of ear rings that play the National Anthem when I call. (Of course we have been married 48 years so she probably is just avoiding me!)

I'm all in favor of "wearable technology" if it's functional and this seems to be an ideal use and a great idea.  Thank you for bringing it to our attention.  Also, would you please post again to notify us as to any commercialization data?  Great post.

It's a nice idea but I don't know how commercially viable it is. My devices are always on vibrate and I can here them 30 feet away. Once you set your ringtone, you're almost linked to it. The way your dog knows your footsteps and is waiting with the tail wagging before you open the door.

Some popular songs use common tones from consumer electronic devices.  It's funny to see how many people jump and look at their phones when some songs play in the stores.

I have an item like that, connected through bluetooth. But it would always crash my Treo 650 after a while!

Very right Liz. I even get annoyed by the notifications of my cell phone when i am working or i am busy somewhere as they cause a lot of distractions. But as you said, i love the option of personalized profiles and VIPs feature, as now one can adjust just a few important notifications and wear the bracelet. The illumination feature is very nicely designed; it really adds a lot of beauty to the product.
