Those sound like good ideas to reduce cost, William K. I think you may be wrong that the concept is not rational, though, as it is a great idea that really makes sense. I'm sure there are ways to get the costs down if that's the only barrier to this being viable; it's such a great idea, in my opinion.
How to make it affordable? Start by reducing the level of automation and the gesture recognition system. A much simpler controls package could cut costs. Next, let a bunch of the motions be hukman powered instead of motor driven. That would reduce the cost a lot.
But it may be that the whole concept is not rational because the materials costs would be way high.
Hi, bobjengr. Since it's off topic, I won't take up too much space here but I will say that living in Portugal is great. I live in a place with lots of foreigners so it's a very diverse place--I have friends from about 10 countries or more. I live close to the sea and the lifestyle is very mellow. Of course, there are a lot of things you must adjust to at first--the pace of life is much slower and it's hard sometimes to get things done, and bureaucracy can be a pain. But it's really lovely and I highly recommend living abroad if one can achieve it. Portugal itself is a beautiful country and quite uncrowded, even the cities are quiet manageable. It has its problems and is a bit rough around the edges in a lot of ways, too, but really a lovely place. Thanks for reading and commenting, bob.
Hello Elizabeth. This is really off the subject but how do you enjoy living in Portugal? I hear it's a fascinating country and one that's definitely on my bucket list. We have friends who make the trip every two or three years as time and money permit and they love the country. You are absolutely correct in that housing prices are really low in places you would not want to live. Been there-done that!! Take care.
REALLY cool video Cabe. My wife and I started out in an efficiency apartment about the size of the one shown in the video. Maybe 500 square feet. We could have certainly have used the CityHome design. This is really a fascinating concept and I'm sure one that will take off when commercialized. If you look at apartments and hotel rooms in other parts of the world you see how pampered we are here in the "states". They survive on much less footage than we think is necessary.
