What facsinates me is making the cars automatic like planes . No dout it might also sound wierd but such cars can be really helpfull for long drives whch will elimnate the hassle of tiredness andstuff . Although it is not a requirement but it always facsinaes me .
Andy to some extent i agree with your point , it can be beneficial to ppeople who dont know how to drive but it sounds wierd that you are keepig a car but you dont know how to drive . It can be usefull for patients , people havig panic attacks or those wh dont have the stamina for driving but this will make niche only it wont make a large market .
Keeping aside security risks, I don't really swallow the whole idea of driverless cars. I could only think of one possible benefit that is less road accidents due to the elimination of human driving or concentration errors. Or is it really a possible benefit? I doubt it. Apart from this, when one has to actually sit in the car (obviously car can't hypothetically take you to somewhere without actually having you inside), why one can't drive and needs a driverless car?
@ Daniyal_Ali, these are certainly some valid points of concern regarding driverless cars. These security risks exist already with most of the vehicles capable of connecting to internet for various things like navigators. With more and more vehicles depending entirely on connectivity, risks will go sky high as there will be more fruit for potential trouble makers.
Definitely Danial, I agree with you but the thing is that with every technology there is pros and cons attached same is true for these driverless cars as well. But as the technology matures the cons also gets removed slowly and gradually , These days even there are security issues of VIPS in the cars driven by drivers .

After reading your article i had a flash back of my final year project which was also an unmanned ground vehicle with sensors for obstacke detection and then taking the shortest possible path . In that the passengers used to give the destination location to the car in terms of latitude and longitude with the help of AT Commands .This is no doubt a revised version of that .
Those are scary thoughts, Daniyal Ali, but you're certainly right. Imagine what a smart hacker could do to a city that's dependent on driverless cars, vehicle-to-vehicle or vehicle-to-infrastructure technology. They could bring a city to a virtual standstill.
You bring up some really good points, Daniyal, and you're right, before these cars reach critical mass something should be done in terms of security since there is arguably more at stake when it comes to driverless cars than there is with loss of data at a corporate level (though that is also damaging in its own way).

Pubudu, I think for R&D purpose, they had kept the speed minimum. Once the technology is developed, it's not a great matter to increase the speed at desired level.
