I agree. It seems as though PLM can help manage all development cyles for mechanicals, electronics, and software as well as assist in the seamless integration of these three product based components.

Very interesting article, mechatronics design could greatly benefit from implementing some form of PLM.

@Nadine: Yes indeed plus it saves time as well. Time is precious but mostly gets ignored but in real terms, it gets calculated.

Agreed.  PLM systems have helped streamline the design process.  Being able to share files across multiple platforms is very useful.

I can relate to the discussion about the major obstacles of integrating data with multiple vendor's tools across multiple domains.  With design cycle times becoming more and more compressed, it is so important to have the right data immediately available at a designer's fingertips.  As the article stated, too often it seems that we have to spend excessive time digging up, verifying and converting design data instead of spending more time on the actual design itself.  The right PLM tools and system can be very beneficial.
