I'm surprised China hasn't jumped onto the MEMS bandwagon sooner since they manufacture a lot of the world's electronic components.

China does have very cheap and skilled labor available which really gives them a great advantage. And because of the availability of cheap skilled labor china is not progressing only in electronic industry but in other sectors as well. And a healthy competition in MEMS will be really great for the consumers.

A new all-Chinese player in the MEMS field is Miramems (never heard of them? I hadn't either till a few months ago, and you won't find them at Mouser or Digikey).

I couldn't see where they had an edge over the more established manufacturers, though.
