You're right that this technology delivers simplicity, Rich. I actually am surprised at how successful it is and that there aren't more problems with it. I have been using touch technology since the very first iPhone and, except for a few glitches here and there when I've spiilled water on my device (but only temporary glitches), it rarely fails. It's good to see more options like this for adding it to other devices.

I agree, Liz. It's here to stay. I have to admitr that it took me a while to get used to touch technology, but I like it now.

I actually felt really comfortable with touch technology from the get-go. I'm not sure why, but it just felt really easy to use and intuitive, which it has proven to be.

nothing wrong with touch that a good keyboard can't cure.  for me, steve jobs eternal damnation is his resistance to the traditional inteface.  rather than supplement or grow options, he wanted to supplant and limit them.  worst thing to happen to technology in my lifetime.

Wow- pretty harsh words for the dearly departed Mr. Jobs.  On another UI topic, although he didn't invent the mouse, he did advance its adaptation by massive commercialization of that User-Interface.  How do you feel about that one-?

Initially, touch-screens were simple resistive Mylar films. Two opposing layers coated with a transparent, conductive ITO to create a 'short' when depressed. Actually, very basic.  Soon after, came capacitive screens which offered better tactility with improved registration for pinpoint response.  But it was simultaneous multi-touch that really blew the lid off touch-screen technology, and committed touch screens to become an integral part of the human experience forever.

Touch technology is indeed becoming ubiquitous. And not is this common for mobiles and tablets, but recently researchers in University of Washington has found a way to convert a standard LCD monitor into touch screen using a wall mounted EMI sensor that costs only $5. The technology is called as "uTouch". So touch and gesture technology is becoming a very common and essential part of modern era.

Touch screen is no doubt a very easy technology that has developed . Initially it has limited users and only i guess youth were interested in using touch technology fones but as the technology has evolved, developed, revised and more applications associated with this technology has developed people are not just using this technology for the sake of use it has now become the necessity of the life . According to me its an excellent job done by Steve Jobes he has worked on a very complex aspect of marketing that is developing the need of a new technology these days technolgies are developed according to the present needs of the people but this touch technology has gone in the other way round it was first developed and after that the need was created an excellent marketing approach .

These touch technology is widely used in ATM machines, car navigation system, medical monitors,Industrial control panels, mobiles. Laptops , tablets not only this but electronic appliances used in house hold also have touch technology like in fridge, freezers, microwave, electric oven and so on . In short we can say that this technology is on its way towards boom.

A touch responsive surface is used along with the sensors , Sensors have current passing when this current touches the surface it gets converted into voltage . A controller that is the hardware is used which converts voltage into signals. A software tells the computer the mobile or any device whats happening on the sensor who is touching what and where .
