Technically it is line of sight.  2.4GHz tyically does not like walls or plants.

That is all part of the application running in the microcontroller.

The micro wakes up and wakes up the radio. Data is exchanged and the micro puts the radio back to sleep and then returns to bed.

I used Wireshark and captured that area of the screen.

I have the original Wireshark capture file that I can provide to you.

?? What would you recomend for getting started ?

Fred, you mentioned the range of the radio was 30-to-100 feet. Is this line of sight or can the signal propagate through walls?

 

How would an RFD device generally 'receive' commands? Is that worked out in the application? For instance, send sensor data, stay awake for 1 minute and then sleep ... trying to preserve battery power so really don't want to be continuously listening.

The MA has a max power output of 0 dBm (1mW) and the MB maxes out at 20 dBm (100mW).

The MB can also be had with an external connector.
