Yes, I remember hearing about an EE prof being asked what a good A/D and D/A combination would be to take an analog signal and double the amplitude. They wanted to digitize it, multiply by 2 with a micro and convert back to analog.

"The Cloud" was originally the vision of Sun Microsystems which dared to envision that the Internet should be the computer and personal computers would be terminals. The advantages of 'dumb terminals' in a disttibuted system are ease of use and dedication. But, of course, everyone scoffed. Now Sun's vision is becoming a reality.
