How does counting grapes enhance the yield?

I also wonder about how an accurate count of the grapes will enhance the yield. But possibly it will tell the vinyard manager how many to expect and so they can collec enough grapes for the day's wine production, and they can know how nany are left behind. 

But I do question the claimed accuracy as I have never seen a two-dimentional cluster of grapes.

The article tells how the technique would improve the yield estimate, but I didn't understand how it would enhance the yield, as the title claims.

Computer vision enhances crop yield

i consider this as a milestone that it uses computer vision to enahnce crop yield.

It also shows the "esoteric" shift of technology too. I remember a comment made by Shimon Peres of using high technology for agriculture in Israel by which they were able to convert desert into harvesting paradise. This solution takes the technical challenge by the horn: it is tough to estimate  how much wine can be made from each surface unit area of the vineyard,as it is nearly impossible to gain an exact yield count for conversion to the wine's actual volume. The margin of error of 9.8 percent of the overall crop weight per vineyard when compared to the estimates given using human counters, which have an accuracy rate to within 30 percent of the total harvested weight which makes it more efficitne.

This is top class innovation. Thanks for sharign this info.

It images the field to count the number of grapes it can see. It also checks for shape as well. I suppose it is to help manage the grade vines without human intervention.

I would imaging many countless photos would have to be analyzed. It would be hard to see it all in a Winery grape field. Seems like it could get out of control.
