shehan, I live in a remote rural area where there simply aren't many stores at all, let alone much in the way of choice, and that's why I bought the crummy microwave locally. It was the last time I did that. Now I read reviews online and buy online, since I can't buy most of what I want locally.

shehan, I forgot to mention--this was a Chinese brand, and manufactured in China. In fact, this purchase was the one that made me start avoiding goods made in China whenever possible.

shehan, yes, only one week. I was stunned, to say the least, and also pretty mad.

@shehan- You're completely correct, it was made in China.  Surprisingly I bought a garden hose today and it's made in the USA.  There's hope!

@oldmanbiker – This is another issue with low quality components used in manufacturing the microware, that's why I always ask myself why they compromise quality for cost.

@Ann – Just try reading few reviews online before you finalize to make a purchase, at least you will get a chance to buy the best from what is available in your store.

@armorris – yes it might be the trapped air inside the microwave, but isn't there a mechanism where the odor is neutralized each time you're done cooking something.

@Ann – I second it the quality of electronics has drastically dropped compared to sometime back. It's very disappointing at times how manufactures compromise quality for cost.

@kenish – I have a feeling that your new microwave was manufactured in China and has used many low quality components. The last thing you want to hear is having repairs very soon like the rest of us.

@Rob – Well you are lucky then, what brands do you use? and where are they manufactured at?
