Signing in to tell myself that I watched this.

Thanks Fred. This should be fun

Iron

as i have just purchased B4A i am following all info available. In this classroom Fred mentions to download optional source code. Where is this link?

very impressed with the lecture.

Iron

B4A looks very capable

I havent used any of this development kits I prefer to go directly to the actual devices

I tried using bluetooth with a set of wireless speakers. It seemed difficult to pair and arrange for audio. I wish it was as easy as using a wireless logitech mouse

ready to catch up and listen in on another lecture

Looking forward for the next lecture...

Iron

Great to have access to the recorded sessions!

Iron

Taking the class offline

Iron

Missed the live lecture...

Iron

@gbabecki

I didn't find out about until I got an email from Basic4Android, after I posted the discount code.

Iron

thanks Fred, looks interesting

Iron

OK thank you Fred.

Iron

@CCarpenter

Yep.. you need something with 3 or better..

You'll find that things just won't work with 2.2.

Blogger

Thanks.  If you're still there:  I'm using an old tablet running Android 2.2.  Can you tell me how will that restrict what I can do with B4A?  Yesterday's USB material says I need Android 3 I think.

Iron

@CCarpenter

When I've had problems, the forums are the place to go.

Blogger

It took me all morning to get B4A installed, but it seems to be working.  Could have used a more detailed installation cookbook ...

Iron

@Zwilrich

Got it, thanks.  I didn't proceed through the purchase yet so those details were probably visible after that point.

Iron

@gbabecki

The additional years are the "reward" for posting the discount code.  You get one additional year of free upgrades for each person who uses your code.

Iron

*reading...(for correction)

see you all tomorrow and thanks to all!

See you tomorrow and have a nice evening Teacher and all Students

Iron

@ronaldgomeseria

You are welcome!  "See" you tomorrow..

Blogger

a great presentation and resing those blogs are very interesting...so far, thanks once again sir fred for your great presentation.

Have all of the questions been answered?

Thanks to all of you for attending today.

I'm having a BLAST with this subject and I hope you are too!

"See" you all tomorrow.

Blogger

Thanks Fred teacher for the answer

yes you are right I am looking at the serial Lib now,

Iron

Thanks Fred, very interesting stuff.

Iron

@BenL

Settings --> Applications --> Unknown Sources for Android 2.2

Iron

@Zwilrich

I see the Enterprise version gives 2 years free upgrades, but I'm not seeing the "additional 4 years of free upgrades" option.  There is a 1 or 2 year "Extended Download Warranty" but that doesn't sound like the same thing.

Iron

@farhad21

Yep.. It's built in.. It is part of the Serial library.

Blogger

Thanks Fred! I'm looking around and there are v4.0 kits available so I'm gonna investigate little bit more. Interesting webinar series so I'm gonna watch it the whole week.

Iron

@van

Do you mean the SENA Bluetooth board??

Blogger

To Teacher Fred:

any library in B4a to complete the bluetooth pairing with the pass word process??

Iron

BeL. I have to go out sorry. The non-market app allowance is there. You're using SLode? as I recall.

I did install non-market apps -- mine amongst others.

I do have an Android 2.2 device -- it's upstairs though.

Keep hunting! ;-)

Iron

@simlastik

I don't know if SENA has such a beast.  That would be a good question for the B4A forum.

Blogger

Let's try that again.

The purchase page link is: http://www.basic4ppc.com/android/purchase.html

How does it work & terms:

- User goes to the purchase page and clicks on the Plimus button.

- User enters your coupon code in the coupon field in order to receive the 50% discount.

- After purchase you will receive a notification mail.- This offer can be terminated at any time.

- You can receive up to 4 additional years of free upgrades.

- Only new customers can use the coupon.- A coupon code can be used for up to 20 times.

Iron

Thanks Dave. I can not see it in Developer options. My Android Firmware version is 2.2

Iron

Thanks Fred, see all tomorrow

Iron

daveWR

You can run B4A in Android SDK but you need to zip the file in apk format and run the program in debug mood .

Iron

To those who asked, here is the info on the Plimus code:

Iron

SENA SPP Starter Kit supports only Bluetooth v2.0. Is there a similar module that supports the newest Bluetooth v4.0 and at the same could be used with Basic4Android platform?

Iron

Thanks Fred... great Job.

I look forward to later lectures on the graphics.

Thanks Fred. This may be palatable...

Especially with the gadgets to be added on to actualy run devices...

I had no idea this stuff was availabe.

CU Tomorrow.

Iron

what is the link for the Beginners Guide

@Lt.Dan DaveWr

The Android SDK Emulator is supported by B4A.

The B4A Beginner's Guide describes how to get it going.

Blogger

Is there a time limit on the Pilmus coupon code?

And do they take  AMEX -- company card eh?

Iron

The android SDK (Required) has some emulators. Do they work with B4A? dunno.

Tiger Direct has some Android 4 tablets at Less than $100. fwiw

Iron

@Zwilrich

Is there a time limit on the Pilmus coupon code?  The "regular" discount expires later today.

Iron

Does anyone have a KOBO EReader? It's an Android 2 device.

Iron

@john_b_30340

yep.. Tune in for Day 5 ;-)

Blogger

Along the same lines as Lt.Dan, could you recommend a low-cost dev platform?  I don't have an Android device either.

Iron

Can B4A create standard graphics on screen (lines from point to point, display JPGs at various points scaled to a specific size, etc

Good question Lt.Dan! I'm in the same boat and wondering which emulator is recommended to go with b4A. I have BlueStacks installed, but not really an expert.

Iron

Hi!

I want to buy Eval brd/dev brd and SW.  Please email me your info to vavo@cisco.com.

Thanks,

Van

Iron

Hi Jennifer, I tried to listen yesterday class (archived) but it does not play. How to listen it?

Thanks

Iron

B4A looks pretty good. I have some small apps I would like to write for my tablet. Basic would not be my first choice, but quicker than going through the Java learning curve.  I will probably order a copy tonight before the discount expires.

Iron

Any way to download audio for offline viewing of slides along with lecture?

Iron

I'm new to android development, don't currently own an android device. (Gasp!). Are there means to develop and test apps in the absence of an actual device?

Iron

This B4A is really working nicely. The learning curve is reasonable and the material you are providing is great - (source code today was particularly helpful). Playing around with it for less than an hour early this morning I was able to start to feel comfortable with it. Great presentation. Thank you! - Carl

Iron

Repost of link code:

@CLASS

I am providing the complete B4A source code/project code  for today's lecture.

I feel that having the complete source code to go with the slides will help you better undestand the concepts behind implementing Bluetooth communications with B4A.

You can download the code from:

http://www.edtp.com/cec/B4A-day2-bluetooth.zip

Iron

For the code, see 3rd comment from the bottom.

Iron

How do you invoke the emulator if you don't want to connect to a device.

Iron

B4A looks simple enough to get started. Don't know what happlens when you want to go deeper in program complexity...

Iron

Thanks Fred ,it was usefull

Iron

Thank you Fred. Very Interesting topic today. See you tomorrow.

Iron

Thanks Fred, Jennifer, and Digi-Key!!

Iron

thanks for a great presentation, sir fred, madam jennifer and the digikey...more power!

Thanks Fred

I appear to have missed the pointer to the download additonal code. Could you point it out please.

Thank You, very interesting!

Iron

B4A looks like it has a lot to offer, easy to use.

Thanks Fred.

Iron

It looks like a pretty nice quick demo or R&D tool.

Iron

I like the Visual Basic appeal of B4A and actually purchased a license yesterday.   THanks Fred.

Iron

Where can I download the code from todays class ?

Iron

Thanks very much Fred and Jennifer

Iron

Thanks Fred, Jennifer & Digi-Key

Iron

Great presentation, thanks Fred and Jennifer.

Iron

A long way from the ASM I used to program!

Iron

Just ordered B4A, looks like a tool that I need.

Good starter kit.

Iron

excited about trying B4A soon.

Iron

Looks like a good starter tool.

Iron

Can B4A work with Android emulators, like Blustacks? SOme other emulator preferred?

Iron

Slide 22 -  This completes Day 2. How do you feel about B4A?

This SENA SPP Starter Kit supports only Bluetooth v2.0. Is there a similar module that supports the newest Bluetooth v4.0 and at the same could be used with Basic4Android platform?

Iron

Try to enable installation of non-market applications. Can not find "Unknown sources" under Applications or Security. Anyone know how? My phone SUMSUNG-SHG-I897. Thanks a lot!

Iron

My audio was blocked by my company.  Off the grid and it is working.  Thx!

Iron

to get the audio, just keep clicking on the strip, and it eventually comes on

We use bluetooth between our devices.

Iron

I got audio - I think clicking the "play" (triangle) button made it work, but not sure.

Iron

Moving right along to slide 13

I had a lot of trouble finding how to get audio working.  It is not intuitive.  Not sure how I finally did it.

They need to work on this.

Iron

Audio is good for me. Try Chrome. It's better than IE.

Iron

Dv is great for prototyping

Iron

briabub - Some companies block live audio streams. This class will be available on-demand immediately after the class. Most users don't experience any issues with the audio for the on-demand version.

Refresh did not work, will try again,thanks.

Iron

Refresh the screen for audio?

Iron

It's been coming and going- it's dropped me twice so far.  He's on slide #9 now...

Gold

No audio yet. Any one else experiencing this?

Iron

which version of bluetooth does that BCD chip use?

Iron

...no audio and no play button link to audio on Chrome or IE.

Iron

Have used dev kits to eval microcontrollers.

Iron

Frequently use development kits for development. Usually a quick and economical way to get started and  proof of concept.

@DaveWR

That is good to hear.  The goal for this week is to build something "real" and make it work
every day with the hope that someone picks up on something they can use.

@78RPM

Didn't get deep into the detail.  However, if it's walking like an Android phone and quacking like an Android phone, B4A may be a player..

Hello from sunny SE Lake Simcoe Ontario canada. Grey, hot muggy and yucky!

Iron

@Fred

So far the value is far beyond what I expected.  I was expecting something far simpler and vaguely interesting -- not something that addressed my current concerns with Android Development.

I have been looking at using inexpensive tablets for machine monitoring and control and hooking into mineral processing equipment in remote locations -- where low power and security are issues. If the engineer has the tablet and programmer -- it's tough to muddle the process. Can't say much more.

This points the way forward on a number of issues.

Embarcader told me Firemonley for Android later this year -- just like the last three years.
