Yes, we must be careful as to what conspiracies we believe. Take everything with a grain of salt from the conspiracy angle. But, follow the money. Also, look for independent sources for corroboration of facts.
"Change of society is a tough issue..... free or reasonable access to information that is of a no private nature... like what is provided by librarys or regulatory angencies...general pubic informaton."
I agree. It's hard to know what is truth when everything we are told has a spin. As a result, mis information is a hard thing to combat.
Examples are when large companies spend money to propaget lies. Like the commercials that state 'the body can't tell the difference between High Fructose and sugar"
The taste buds can[t, but the liver takes on 6 times as much toxins for every molecule of high fructose.
Be aware who benefits from the information that is being disseminated.
With an older stule POTS line, a caller calling into a remote location can issue a security code to identify themselves. The remote location can then hang up and call them back.
Caller ID can be spoofed so that is not entirely reliable. But, to hack into a Pots network when a remote location has initiated a call is a lot harder to do than to reroute and re broadcast an internet data stream.
Redundancy for cloud services is a good point. There will be geographically hit areas affected by storms etc. The ability for a redundant server in a nearby and unaffected area may be able to keep srvices alive if there is not oversubscription of communications lines. Having electricity helps too.
Jon, great job ... the week seemed to fly by ... (relativity I suppose) ... I'm glad you are socially and environmentally aware and share your concerns ... we need more of that in the engineering community
POTS vs cloud service: It will be instructive to examine the system failures in Moore Okl after the EF5 tornado took out all the above ground infrastructure. Did the wired POTS lines survive? Will business have no connectivity thru the cloud for many weeks?

New glass coating, the design of which was inspired by two disparate examples in nature -- a moths eye and lotus leaf -- could mean significant improvements for solar panels, lenses, military equipment, windows, and other products in the future, thanks to the Department of Energy.
