Yes, Elizabeth. This reminds me of a New Yorker cartoon. It shows two executives at a soap company looking in on a worker in an office who is apparently on the product development team. "I can tell he's thinking," says one of the executives, "but I can't tell if he's thinking about soap."

That's kind of how I feel about it, Rob. I'm still a bit confused about its worth. But it's still quite interesting!

Andy your concern is a logical one but what i think is that if some such sort of a headset has been created then definitely thy would have taken safety measures as well .Secondly the amount of infra red rays injected will not harm humans because its quanitity would have been specified

Cabe, it takes a lot to render me speechless, but this device did. I agree with TJ's comments, although perhaps not as tongue-in-cheek as he says they are.

Right now, I'm having a hard time imagining a diabolical use of this technology. Yet I also am fuzzy about positive applications for this.

I don't think we need to worry about safety precautions because such applications are already under a lot of pressure to maintain health standards, and damage from IR should be a far fetched concern in my opinion.

It seems to be a reflective version of a pulse oxymeter. I don't think it could penetrate very far into the brain due to bone loss and tissue loss. The measurement would probably contain skin & bone artifacts that would have to be subtracted out. This is interesting, but the info presented was very limited.

Don't panic, although the article doesn't detail the light source, I'm certain the amount of IR is far less than a typical sunny day, and probably even less than what you see from a 100W incandescent lamp. You'd be surprised how much IR an incandescent bulb puts out.

"It beams infrared light at the brain's prefrontal cortex and monitors the light's interaction with hemoglobin, the oxygen-transporting protein found in red blood cells."

Beaming infrared light in to brain!!! how safe is this process? Is it limited by any condition like health condition of a person or maximum number of times brain can be exposed to these beaming?

What makes this movie stand out from the typical high school sports story is that the teenagers are undocumented immigrants, and the big game is a NASA-sponsored marine robotics competition. Like many other Hollywood movies, however, Spare Parts only tells part of the story. What the film shows -- and doesn’t show -- raises important issues affecting STEM education in the US.
Instead of sifting through huge amounts of technical data looking for answers to assembly problems, engineers can now benefit from 3M's new initiative -- 3M Assembly Solutions. The company has organized its wealth of adhesive and tape solutions into six typical application areas, making it easier to find the best products to solve their real-world assembly and bonding problems.
Load dump occurs when a discharged battery is disconnected while the alternator is generating current and other loads remain on the alternator circuit. If left alone, the electrical spikes and transients will be transmitted along the power line, leading to malfunctions in individual electronics/sensors or permanent damage to the vehicle’s electronic system. Bottom line: An uncontrolled load dump threatens the overall safety and reliability of the vehicle.
