That makes sense, TJ. Steel ball bearings will get replaced when the design engineer designs a product that fits the capabilities of the plastic or other material. Is there a cost savings on the plastic bearings?

Rob, from a capacity standpoint I agree with you.  One cannot replace a steel ball bearing with a dimensionally equal plastic one - the load capacity is much much lower.

But if one works within the bearing's capabilities, one can solve some pretty difficult problems with plastic.

Looks like ball bearings are going the way of many new technologies with a turn toward new materials. From this article, it seems that steel bearings will not be replaced soon.
