Make and Model

Giving the make, model, and years spent racing at Indy (posibly even race finish place and year) would allow viewers to do a search for more information on the vehicle.

Great photos, though I also wish that they'd had some caption information.

I was slightly involved with high-end dirt track racing for a while.  I'm reminded that many of those early cars were multi-purpose.  The cars would run on dirt tracks at 180 mph most of the year. On Memorial Day they were outfitted with different tires and the suspensions were tweaked to run on pavement.  The next weekend those cars and drivers were back at the dirt tracks.

I have to agree. While the photos of these vehicles are great, it would be nice to have a little information on them as well.

The year, top speed and significant wins would be interesting to know.

You're right.  They are huge motors with wheels.  Just like early motorcycles, function was most important.  After we refined that, form became more important.

Great slide show, I wish there were captions to explain a little about each car.  They look like no more than a huge motor and tires.

A look back puts today's cars in context

These cars look like they've come straight out of some old movie I saw as a kid about an around-the-world race. Very cool and very entitling when you look at how far the designs have come in terms of aerodynamics and just pure horsepower.
