The 2021 Cars.com American-Made Index is out just in time for the 4th of July, and while some of the top finishers may not be surprising, there are some cars in the top 10 that might be unexpected.

This is the second year of the American-Made Index, which evaluates 90 vehicles through five major criteria: assembly location, parts content, engine origins, transmission origins, and U.S. manufacturing workforce.

A strong showing by Silicon Valley stalwart Tesla makes sense, but there are also a slew of Japanese-brand models crashing the top 10. Patriotic favorite Jeep Wrangler? It is far from the list, rating only 38th place despite assembly in Jeep's ancestral hometown of Toledo, Ohio.

And consider that BMW's Spartanburg, S.C. plant is the company's largest and that BMW is the leading exporter of cars from the U.S.
