Around 2018, the AI processor race fully heated up with big names like Nvidia, Google, Microsoft, Arm, and Qualcomm throwing their hat into the ring and unveiling various chip hardware solutions for AI applications.

But the Linley Group’s recent 2020 Spring Processor Conference was a coming out party for the next generation of AI processors. Several new startups have emerged in the last few years, all creating brand new chip hardware that is purpose-made for AI. Some are even making claims to innovations and breakthroughs that go well beyond what the big names have achieved thus far.
