Rockwell Automation has released an integrated bundle of machine control tools that offers an all-in-one solution for designers of machine control applications.
The Connected Components Accelerator Toolkit (CCAT) includes an entire set of automation engineering design tools for machine control application development, expediting the process of development by eliminating the need to add components and tools to the controller, according to Rockwell.
The toolset is aimed at allowing designers to focus on machine design and performance rather than the ins and outs and time-consuming process of programming and validation, the company said. It’s based on existing Rockwell Automation technology and Microsoft Visual Studio. Rockwell’s Connected Components Workbench software supports the new product.

The forward-looking trend in machine-controller development is to integrate different machine functions on a single controller by providing a single-touch interface.
By using a toolset like CCAT that makes it easy to include the necessary basics to machine-control application development, designers can focus more on value-added customization and providing state-of-the-art controllers, according to Rockwell.
In addition to a machine controller, the toolset includes free programming software; application profiles; quick-start guides; wiring diagrams; and pre-developed human-machine interface (HMI) screens with diagnostics, alarming, and startup assistance. These all facilitate and expedite common control tasks that are part of machine control design, according to Rockwell.
For example, CCAT’s quick-start guides provide designers with information about how to use the tools and set up individual components, while the controller programming software provides all communications, commands, and status updates for the designers.
Moreover, the wiring diagrams and panel layout drawings, in native AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN, can save weeks of effort on the part of the designer, according to Rockwell.
CCAT also includes pre-written control programs; parameter backup and restore functionality; sample bill of materials; and sample panel layouts, the company said.
