Good question.  Cold Forming, Forging or Heading offer several unique benefits.  In most applications those benefits are 1.) preserving the material's native strength and structure in the final component, 2.) optimal primary manufacturing operation for high throughput near net shape secondary operations such as roll-forming, tapping, stamping, machining or broaching and, finally and most importantly, 3.) cost.  The beauty of Cold Forming is you get to have your cake "superior mechanical performance + complex tight tolerance geometric shapes" and eat it too "lowest cost to manufacturer for high volume metal components or parts".
