The variety and selection of self-clinching fasteners has also increased over the years.  Several new, innovative fastener designs now offer solutions that were not available a few years ago.

Just make sure when using them that you don't need to remove them for any reason. They're a pain and have a habit of marring the finish of the metal.

Great article and thanks for the detailed information.  I especially appreciate the discussion about specifying the correct type of stainless steel fastener material when using 300 series stainless steel sheets.

Excellent post Leon.  I have used Penn Fasteners in times past and they have always been completely acceptable and reliable for the intended use.  The support I received from Penn was excellent very timely.   Your nine (9) fundamentals are extremely important and I certainly appreciate the list. I would like to highlight one specifically--always test the assembly and try to provide information needed to determine reliability of an assembly; i.e. mean-time to failure (MTTF) and mean-time between failure(MTBF).   I feel this is absolutely critical.   Great work and many thanks.
