Reading this reminded of the complexity of designing and using 3D printing to create prototypes for newer ski boots.  If you haven't paid attention lately, boots have changed a lot!

My mentor once said "design is design".  Meaning that no matter what you're creating, the processes are equal and you always bring what's unique in yourself to the project.

As mentioned in the article, proper material selection is very important for medical devices.  In addition to tight tolerances, moldability and surface finish, many plastic parts must also contend with additional requirements of biocompatibility and chemical resistance (from harsh chemical disinfectants).  Many times, these numerous requirements make choosing the right material very challenging.
