Greater energy efficiency seems to be a must in new products. The combined improvements over thousands of new products over the past decade should have some cumulative value.

Rob, pneumatic valves over the last 20 years have shifted to low power 24VDC types (1 watt power draw per valve or less).  They're already pretty efficient.

The place to look for efficiency in pneumatic systems is eliminating leaks.  A single leak, one that's just audible, will waste far more electricity through the compressor than an inefficient valve.

That's a good point, TJ. Although benefits in efficiency overall I think are still important, as Rob points out. But to elminate leaks, too, would go a long way to achieving this goal.

Yes, Rob, it certainly is a chief feature coming into a lot of new electronics components these days. It's really a no-brainer, but I think the range of options for efficiency (ie, energy harvesting) are changing the way this feature is designed.
