@taimoortariq: The resolution of the LDC1000 output is 16 bits for eddy current losses, and 24 bits for inductance. However, the resolution as related to the customer measurement (e.g., distance or angle) will depend on the design and geometries of the end-system.

I encourage you to share any other questions you have about the LDC1000 or LDC technology on our Inductive Sensing forum, which our technical experts monitor daily: http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/inductive-sensing/default.aspx

Thanks,

I'll doublecheck with TI, taimoortariq, but I believe the resolution is better than that of a Hall Effect sensor.

Smart utilization of technology I would say. It would be great if this sensor can provide even better control in places like motor speed control and with more accuracy than hall effect sensors.

Don't know if your question about the announcement was directed at this product, but this one has already been announced. It's available for order now at $2.95 in 1,000-unit quantitiies.

I think this would be a tremendous tool for safety devices in a press room and/or machine shops. Too often, in a punch press, ram and crank position is sensed by micro switches that can and do occasionally fail. Since OSHA, there are usually redundant safeties, but even now there are occasional failures.

@far911: Yes and the accuracy too will be good. Also you can get the real time updates and integrating facility with other tools.

Yes i guess it will be useful for the engineers and at the same time for the tracker companies.

@Murray: Is the GPS system being implemented on this or a similar mechanism being used to track ?
