I, too, used to trade them in at 100,000 miles, Rob. In fact, before buying my current car, which has 195,000 miles, I owned a 1998 Ford Windstar minivan that had to be traded in at 84,000.

Same for me, Ann. I now have a car with 195,000 miles and my son has one with 210,000.

My Dodge Ram 1500 is 13 years old and runs like a top!  Must have been some good engineering/manufacturing processes in place in 2000.

Thanks, now I don't feel so alone. I always keep my cars at least 10 years, and/or 150,000 to 190,000 miles. Interesting to find out that lots of others keep them even longer.

Nice story, Chuck. I've seen this play out in my own life. I used to trade my cars in when they started closing in on 100,000 miles. Now I regularly drive them past 150,000. Cars are getting better.

When I was a kid, my dad bought a new car every three years. He kept the old one for my mom to do errands. So the oldest our cars ever got were three years and six years. Back then, that six-year-old car seemed ancient. The times have certainly changed.
